Foodservice giant Compass has made three new appointments to its executive team including naming Charlie Brown as managing director of its education arm Chartwells.

He takes the role left vacant after Richard Taylor's departure at the end of January. Prior to joining Compass Brown worked at Whitbread for 10 years, between 1996 and 2007, reaching the position of operations manager. He joined Compass in 2007 and has been employed in multiple senior operational roles across sectors including managing director for its government services and 14Forty businesses. His most recent role was transformation director.

Financial controller Sarah Sergeant has been promoted to finance director; she takes the role from interim finance director Kate Dunham. Sergeant has been with the firm for over 12 years and was the company's chief financial officer in Asia Pacific.

Additionally, Ian Cranna joins the executive team as its chief marketing officer. He previously worked at Starbucks for 15 years.

Compass Group UK & Ireland managing director Robin Mills said: "Compass' key strength is its brilliant people and I'm delighted to welcome Ian to the Compass family and congratulate Charlie and Sarah on their appointments. We have an exciting year ahead of us and these new appointments will be integral as we drive Compass forward on its growth journey and shape our future business strategy."
