Carbis Bay hotel appeals notice to pull down buildings constructed for G7 Summit
Carbis Bay hotel in Cornwall has appealed a council enforcement notice ordering it to pull down buildings constructed for the G7 global summit earlier this year.
The 47-bedroom hotel hosted the event, which was attended by world leaders including Angela Merkel, Joe Biden, Justin Trudeau and Emmanuel Macron, in June.
A planning application for the meeting rooms, which the hotel previously said were required for the summit, was submitted to Cornwall Council retrospectively, but was later withdrawn. In response the council issued an enforcement notice, which required the area be returned to its previous state.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: "The enforcement notice in relation to unauthorised works at the Carbis Bay hotel was due to come into effect on 18 October 2021.
"This notice requires the unauthorised developments to be removed and for the land to be reinstated to its former levels, gradients and condition within six calendar months of this date.
"However, the applicant has lodged an appeal against the enforcement notice, and the matter will now be formally considered by the Planning Inspectorate appointed by the Secretary of State."
Carbis Bay declined to comment.
