Birmingham NEC and Manchester Central to become temporary hospitals
The Birmingham National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Manchester Central convention centre will also be turned into temporary hospitals, it was announced yesterday.
Speaking at the government's daily briefing, chief executive of the National Health Service (NHS) Sir Simon Stevens said: "Because this is a problem not just confined to London, but across the whole country, I have given the go-ahead to the building of two further of these NHS Nightingale hospitals, beginning with the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre and the Manchester Central convention centre, with further such hospitals to follow."
Earlier this week it was announced that the ExCeL centre in London was to be turned into a temporary hospital. The hospital is to be staffed by military medics and will be the largest such NHS facility in the country.
