Ashkenazi-inspired restaurant Jago to open in Shoreditch

Jago, a new Ashkenazi-inspired restaurant, is set to open in Shoreditch later this week.

The restaurant, the first venture for head chef Louis Solley, general manager Hugo Thurston and entrepreneur Vinny Burke, will launch on Saturday 6 December.

Featuring menus that aim to reflect head chef Solley's East-London Jewish roots and reference Spitalfields' history as a home for immigrants, Jago takes its name from the colloquial title reportedly given to the area between Shoreditch High Street and Spitalfields in the 1860s.

Sample savoury dishes include Russian salad; pickled herring, beetroot, yoghurt & dill; salt beef & chrain; and Veal cheek goulash, orzo & green harissa. Desserts will include toasted rice pudding & rhubarb compote; orange cake, orange curd & toasted caraway; or cheese.

Solley, who was previously head chef at Ottolenghi's in Notting Hill, commented: "We're quite simply drawing on our skills and our passions to make food we're delighted to eat and proud to serve. We can't wait to start doing so."

A wide selection of wines, predominantly from the South of France and Spain, will be available by the glass, carafe and bottle alongside a concise list of classic cocktails.
