Apple design guru Sir Jony Ive to design Claridge's Christmas tree

London hotel Claridge's has enlisted Apple's chief design officer Sir Jony Ive and designer Marc Newson to create its Christmas tree this year.

Every year the Mayfair hotel selects a different iconic designer to come up with a look for its Christmas tree. This year's version will be unveiled in the hotel's lobby on 18 November.

Ive is famed for designing a host of Apple products including the iMac, PowerBook, MacBook, iBook, iPod, iPhone, iPad and AppleWatch. He is responsible for the look and feel of Apple hardware, user interface, packaging, and major architectural projects such as Apple's new campus and retail stores.

Newson is one of the most influential designers of his generation. He has worked across a wide range of disciplines, creating everything from furniture and household objects to bicycles and cars, private and commercial aircraft, yachts, various architectural commissions, and signature sculptural pieces for clients across the globe. Newson has lived and worked in Tokyo, Paris, and London where he is now based. He is currently brand ambassador for Qantas Airways and designer for special projects at Apple.

Paul Jackson, Claridge's general manager, said: "Christmas has always been a truly special time of year at Claridge's and we are delighted to welcome our friends Jony and Marc to spread their legendary creative magic this year. We truly believe their innovative spirit and groundbreaking approach will make this year's annual tradition one to remember for our guests."

Last year, the hotel's tree (pictured) was designed by Burberry's Christopher Bailey.
