Administrators close Northern Powerhouse Developments' Caer Rhun Hall

The joint administrators for Caer Rhun Hall, part of the Northern Powerhouse Developments Group, have closed the Conwy hotel.

The 32-bedroom Conwy property closed from today "for the safety of staff and guests", due to "a number of health and safety issues" on site.

After entering administration on 8 August 2019, joint administrators Philip Duffy and Sarah Bell of Duff & Phelps continued to trade the hotel.

However a statement from administrators said: "due to the financial position of the hotel and a number of health and safety issues on site which cannot be remediated without further funding, this option is no longer viable and for the safety of staff and guests, the hotel has been closed. All staff have been informed this morning and will be paid in full.

"This is not a decision that has been taken lightly and Duff & Phelps is working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the best outcome at this stage."

NPD acquired the Grade II-listed property in 2016, however the group's hotels fell into administration last year. Administrators continue to operate the businesses while a buyer is sought.

Duffy and Bell were appointed interim managers of parent company Northern Powerhouse Developments in July last year. At the time Duffy said the appointment was to "secure the assets of the company while enabling a detailed assessment and forensic investigation into where many millions of pounds have gone".
