400 Rabbits pizza restaurant to open in south London
A new pizza and beer restaurant named 400 Rabbits is to open in south London's Crystal Palace in early September.
From the team behind the Lido Café in Brockwell, the site at 30 Westow Street will make sourdough bases with toppings inspired by UK-based artisanal producers, including fresh vegetables such as artichoke, asparagus and corn, plus Fior de Latte mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes and British charcuterie such as slow-smoked rare-breed brisket. All the pizzas will be cooked at 450°C in a woodfired oven.
The beer menu will be made up of brews from British producers, such as Mikkeller, London Beer Factory, Beavertown, Moor, Wild, Siren Craft and Thornbridge. There will also be four rotating beers on tap and six in bottles and cans, plus red, white and sparkling wine on tap and oak-barrel-aged Negroni priced at £3.50 a glass.
The site will also serve coffee from Allpress (as well as beans and a home brew kit), and cold-pressed juices from Peckham in south London. Desserts will include a selection of Gelupo gelato, an Italian-style, Soho-made ice-cream.
The restaurant's name comes from an Aztec myth following the story of the affair between the god of fermentation and the goddess of alcohol, which is said to have produced four hundred rabbits as offspring. The name is also a nod to alcohol and fermentation themselves, without which we would not have pizza or beer.
