The latest snacks and drinks launches will evoke home comforts, from a sense of well-being to relaxing in front of the TV. Stephanie Sparrow reports

1 New turn-down service: Sleep Well milk

Could you offer guests a better night's sleep in a carton? This is the claim from Sleep Well, a vanilla-flavoured drink containing Jersey milk, honey and valerian (a herb said to aid relaxation). The product is supported with guidance for hoteliers and guests. A chocolate flavour is in development

• Available in 200ml "sip and sleep" cartons or one-litre tower cartons. Each 200ml carton contains 3ml of valerian

• Long-life UHT aseptic product with nine-month shelf life. Can be drunk warm or cold, but not with alcohol

• Manufactured and packaged in Jersey and Somerset to EU regulations. Not designed for daily use, nor for children under 12 months old

2 Scottish cream shortbread

Paterson's has launched Scottish cream mini-packs. They feature a new recipe using fresh double cream sourced from Edinburgh's Pentland Hills in three varieties: shortbread fingers, shortbread thistle rounds and chocolate chip shortbread thistle rounds • The new range, with two biscuits per pack, helps meet the demand for mini-pack and portion-controlled biscuit options

• Designed to be an in-room treat for guests who appreciate tradition with a twist

• The range consists of two different cases. Paterson's Scottish cream shortbread fingers are sold in a display case of 48 packs. Scottish cream shortbread mini-packs are sold as a mixed case of 100 packs, comprising all three new varieties

3 Coffee capsules

Café du Monde has launched the Café Plus capsule system, offering three of its best-selling coffees in capsules, together with a compact Dualit machine. Café Plus promises precise dosing control and a programmable dosing memory, allowing hoteliers to match coffee extraction with in-room cup sizes • The Dualit machine heats up in just 40 seconds and automatically switches off after 10 minutes of inactivity

• Prices have been released: the Dualit machine costs £105+VAT and there is no product tie-in

• The Grand Cru, Colombian and Swiss water-processed decaffeinated capsules are packed in boxes of 125

4 Space-saving option: milk in a stick

Weary guests and late arrivals often retreat to their rooms to relax with television and the mini-bar. The new range of Walkers Max Strong offers ridged crisps in spicy flavours to complement popular beers and increase cross-category purchases •Three fiery flavours range from medium to extra hot: chilli and lime, hot chicken wings and jalapeÁ±o and cheese

•Available in a 50g grab-bag format

•Intended to appeal to the growing trend for savoury snacking and exotic flavours, which PepsiCo says is fuelled by consumers' interest in new cuisines. Walkers Max Strong is being backed by a television and digital marketing campaign and are expected to be popular during the forthcoming "summer of sport"
