Advice hub launched to help hotels support refugees
The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance has launched a free resource hub for hotels looking to support refugees and displaced people.
The portal includes advice for businesses on providing employment and accommodation and links to job opportunities and training resources for people to learn new hospitality skills.
It is based on learnings from the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance's members, which make up 30% of the global hotel industry by rooms and include Accor, Hyatt, Four Seasons, Radisson Hotel Group and Hilton.
A key focus of the guidance is ethical recruitment, with hotels urged to be aware of the increased risk of exploitation and human trafficking caused by displacement and undertake due diligence across their supply chain.
Glenn Mandziuk, chief executive of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, said: "Through conversations with our members, we recognised that every hotel was inspired to action by the crisis in Ukraine, and felt an urgent need to show their support and solidarity to colleagues and others impacted by the conflict.
"By sharing their real-life experiences and resources, it enables us to provide guidance and trainings to the wider industry that's applicable not just to this present crisis, but the ongoing situations that refugees and internally displaced people continue to experience across the globe."
The group plans to continue to develop the resources to support the industry.
