Sketch owner to open diner-style Mayfair restaurant next month
Sketch London and Momo owner Mourad Mazouz is opening a diner-style restaurant in London's Mayfair next month.
Mo Diner will be a contemporary Mediterranean take on the classic American diner at 23 Heddon Street, next door to Momo in the space that was formerly the Mo Cafe, and is described as "Momo's playful cousin".
The all-day menu will offer Mediterranean twists on classic breakfast items such as hash browns with pomegranate and brown sauce and Berber pancakes with fig marmalade and almonds. There will also be a variety of classic egg dishes such as Moroccan khlea with beef, eggs and green chermoula and eggs Florentine with spinach, mulukhiyah and Aleppo Hollandaise.
Sharing and small plates will include dishes such as lobster ‘rock ‘n' roll', Loulou's chicken wings , merguez in a blanket, grilled octopus with saffron aioli and spiced cauliflower with pomegranate and almonds. Desserts will include Om Ali bread pudding and hibiscus and rhubarb and basil cheesecake.
Inspired by the American diners of the 1930s, and in line with Mazouz' other boldly designed venues, Mo Diner will feature a candy coloured terrace and a neon sign, purple diner booths, yellow Moroccan tiles and an open pass. The site will have a bar for counter-top dining, a colourful outdoor terrace and a Cacti-filled conservatory.
Design has been overseen by Willo Perron & Associates, photographer Hugo Scott will showcase around 50 of his photographs at the site, Sonia Taouhid has designed customised Breton t-shirts for staff uniform and illustrator Yue Wu who created a display for the venue's staircase.
The restaurant will also have a ‘Mo Lotto', where diners will have the opportunity to win prizes including half price breakfasts and a whole meal on the house every week.
