Chef Sam Buckley to open Stockport bakery and deli
Sam Buckley, the chef behind Stockport restaurant Where the Light Gets In, is to open a bakery, deli and pottery in the town this summer.
Buckley is teaming up with potter Joe Hartley and baker Rosie Wilkes to launch Yellowhammer on 25 August.
All parts of the venue will work in synergy, with the pottery providing cups and plates and the bakery selling ceramics.
Buckley and Wilkes are collaborating on the bakery, which will offer sourdough loaves sold as a whole, half or quarter, baguettes and sourdough rye bread, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and a selection of cookies, pies and tarts.
A pizza and natural wine night with musical guests will take place on selected Friday and Saturday evenings, and the bakery will supply bread for the restaurant side.
Buckley got a job working with Gary Rhodes while still at college and has cooked at Simon Rogan's L'Enclume and Paul Kitching's Juniper. He opened Where the Light Gets In in 2016 and the restaurant received a glowing review from Marina O'Loughlin in The Guardian in 2017.
The restaurant's focus on careful sourcing and seasonal produce won it a Michelin green star for 'sustainable gastronomy' in the 2021 Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland.
Buckley appeared on the 2020 series of Great British Menu, representing the north west region.
