Chefs ready to battle it out to be named the 2020 Great Sausage Roll Off champion
Twenty chefs are primed to battle it out in the 2020 Great Sausage Roll Off at the Red Lion pub in Barnes, west London.
The fight to take home the ultimate accolade in pastry-based snacks will take place from 7pm on Wednesday 5 February raising money for Hospitality Action.
Hosted by beer and food writer Melissa Cole, chefs from across the country will descend on The Red Lion to create the ultimate sausage roll. This year's judging panel includes chef and Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer; Heart FM DJ Lucy Horobin; two-Michelin-starred chef-patron, Paul Cunningham of Henne Kirkeby Kro in Denmark; head chef of one Michelin-star Petrus, Russell Bateman; and Michelin-starred chef-owner of Salt in Stratford upon Avon, Paul Foster.
Chefs from across the industry and country (see full list below) will compete in the competition, hosted by licensees Claire Morgan and Angus McKean.
McKean said: "Every year, the competition gets bigger and better and this year is our strongest line-up ever. I can't wait to see the weird and wonderful combinations of pastry, filling and accompaniments the chefs will submit.
"I think the incredible judging panel we have is testament to the status the Great Sausage Roll Off has among chefs across the UK and beyond. If you had told me, when we started in 2013, that I'd have four Michelin stars on the judging panel I'd have said you'd been putting something dodgy in your sausage roll!"
Morgan added: "It's a fantastic night, normally quite chaotic, but great fun. The atmosphere is amazing, we will raise lots of money for Hospitality Action, and I can't wait to see who is going to walk away with the trophy this year."
The current holder of the Great Sausage Roll Off title is Adrian Oliver from Padstow (pictured) who won in 2019 with his Cornish pork, bacon and sage creation.
Anyone can attend the #rolloff and the chefs' creations are sold for industry charity Hospitality Action. The event also includes a charity auction featuring a range of prizes.
