Gordon Ramsay to open third dining concept at the Savoy
Gordon Ramsay is to relaunch a former private dining space at the Savoy as Restaurant 1890, his third concept at the hotel.
Restaurant 1890 by Gordon Ramsay will open at the 267-bedroom, five-red-AA-starred London property on 23 February. Georges Auguste Escoffier joined the Savoy in 1890 and the fine dining menu will pay homage to the chef.
The space will open for dinner only and seat 26 guests. It takes the space over the hotel entrance, formerly the D'Oyly Carte room, and has been redesigned by Russell Sage Studios.
Ramsay said the group was "incredibly excited to offer this new experience", which would offer a seasonal, modern French menu with European influences, overseen by executive head chef James Sharp. Sharp was previously senior sous chef at Ramsay's Michelin-starred Pétrus restaurant, having joined the group in 2015 at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Royal Hospital Road.
Sharp said: "It's always been a dream of mine to run an intimate tasting menu restaurant in such a beautiful location."
Franck Arnold, the Savoy's managing director, added: "With 1890, our third exciting collaboration with Gordon Ramsay Restaurants, our guests will have a wonderfully contrasting choice of restaurants within the Savoy. Aesthetically stunning, with an elevated menu as befits its surroundings, 1890 reflects the Savoy's history of providing luxurious, innovative experiences and we are very much looking forward to its opening."
Restaurant 1890 will join the hotel's food and beverage line-up overseen by Ramsay including the Savoy Grill, which was taken over by Ramsay in 2003, and the recently opened River restaurant.
The tasting menu will be priced at £110 per person, with bespoke wine pairing options.
Sarah Rhone has been appointed general manager of the restaurant, having previously held the same role at Phil Howard's Elystan Street in Chelsea. Emanuel Pesqueira will be head sommelier, who joined the group last year from private members' club 67 Pall Mall, where he was senior sommelier.
