Gizzi Erskine plans three-month residency at St Martins Lane London

Food writer and broadcaster Gizzi Erskine will oversee a three-month residency at the St Martins Lane London hotel from next month.

The Nitery by Gizzi Erskine will be open at the hotel near Charing Cross from 13 February to 30 April, serving classic French, American and British dishes. The concept is inspired by early 20th-century Parisian ‘niteries' – bohemian restaurants which were frequented by artists and poets of the time, that were later adopted by America.

Small plates will include devilled eggs with roast chicken crackling, and oysters with yuzu kosho granita; starters will include iced roast beetroot and buttermilk soup with raw red prawn, egg and pickles, as well as steak tartare with bone marrow dripping on marmite toast with cured egg yolk. There will also be main courses, such as flageolet dauphinoise, goat cutlets and bisque; and Calasparra rice and woodfired shellfish. Desserts will include chocolate mousse with Horlicks cream and there will also be a selection of cheeses served with Hackney honeycomb.

The Nitery will serve Sunday roasts, with starters such as prawn cocktail and cold-smoked trout on brown bread; a carvery station serving beef, lamb or pork; and a vegetarian wellington with vegan gravy. Sundays will also see trolleys serving nostalgic desserts and cheeses.

Spring 2020 will also see the first opening of Erskine and nutritionist Rosemary Ferguson's F!lth burger joint in London's West End. The ‘sustainable' concept, which is eyed for a national roll-out, will provide a range of burgers, containing six portions of fruit and vegetables in each meal.
