Gibney's Irish pub to open London site in basement of Daffodil Mulligan

Dublin pub Gibney's of Malahide is to open an outpost in the basement of Old Street, London restaurant Daffodil Mulligan.

The pub run by Tony Gibney and his sons will open on 12 March with a mission to offer an authentic Irish experience. Over 120 Irish whiskeys, Irish spirits and liqueurs will be available as well as the family's own brew Gibney's Stout.

Gibney said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing a taste of Gibney's of Malahide to London in time for St Patrick's Day. My family have been in the Dublin licence trade for five generations so opening across the pond is a big move for us. Moving beneath Daffodil Mulligan which was named after the daughter of Biddy Mulligan - a legendary Dublin street seller - made perfect sense."

In November Irishman chef Richard Corrigan opened Daffodil Mulligan, in partnership with John Nugent and Tony Gibney. They acquired the former site of Irish restaurant Nuala in June 2019.

Gibney's London has two snug booths which include screens and seating for up to ten guests.

It will offer a snacks bar menu that has been created by Corrigan to complement the Irish drink offering including a Durrus cheese toastie with burnt onion and pickled onion chutney, Mangalitza black pudding sando served with an apple and cucumber pickle salt chilli chicken with chorizo mayonnaise as well as rock and native oysters from Britain and Ireland.
