Galgorm unveils £2m investment into spa facilities ahead of reopening

Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort near Ballymena in County Antrim has unveiled a £2m expansion of its thermal village and spa.

The hotel started work on the project in March after it was forced to close its doors for lockdown.

The spa and 74-bedroom hotel are now ready to open on Friday with new additions including a 10-metre infinity pool on the banks of the River Maine, a palm house relaxation area encompassing six heated loungers, and a salt room.

More than 90% of the thermal village and spa offering is located outdoors, and the hotel has also installed two group hot tubs and saunas, three private hot tubs with waterfall views and six riverside cabanas.

The group said all existing jobs will be protected, and 40 additional jobs have been created throughout the Collection.

Colin Johnston, Galgorm Collection managing director, said: "As an internationally renowned luxury resort, we are continually seeking ways to enhance the guest experience, and with the closure of the resort in March, we had the opportunity to further invest and expand."

In addition, the Galgorm Collection has recently completed the £2.5m first phase of refurbishing the Rabbit, formerly known as the Templeton. Over the last decade, the Galgorm estate has undergone a £60m transformation and there are further plans to invest an additional £20m by 2025.

First minister Arlene Foster added: "As our tourism and hospitality industry focuses on rebuilding, it is encouraging to see one of the best-known businesses continue to invest and innovate, bolstering the recovering economy and cementing its reputation as a world-class destination."
