Fernando Trocca to bring Buenos Aires' Sucre to London

Fernando Trocca is to open a London outpost of his Buenos Aires restaurant Sucre in Soho this July, his first restaurant in the UK.

The original restaurant in Argentina was launched in 2001 by executive chef Trocca (pictured left), combining traditional Latin American open-fire techniques with international influences. Friend and partner Tato Giovannoni (pictured right) was head bartender at the original site and has joined the project as executive bartender to launch Abajo, a cocktail bar beneath the new London restaurant.

The 123-cover London restaurant will occupy the ground floor at 47 Great Marlborough Street, which formerly housed the London College of Music's concert hall. The restaurant will be designed by Japanese architect Noriyoshi Muramatsu and will have an open kitchen with a fire place and wood oven. À la carte dishes will include brill with tarragon and chicken butter sauce, half chicken ‘al ladrillo' with onion fondue, Ibérico pork matambre and Hispi cabbage with burnt onion and blue cheese.

The 75-cover cocktail bar Abajo will open downstairs, taking inspiration from the underground bars and clubs of early 1980s Buenos Aires and a menu primarily of highballs.
