Edinburgh Food Studio announces closure
The founders of Edinburgh Food Studio have announced they will not be renewing their lease at 158 Dalkeith Road in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Ben Reade and his partner Sashana Souza Zanella crowdfunded more than £17,000 in 2015 to refurbish the site, initially using the space to focus on funding intern research on Scottish cuisine, history and ingredients through pop-up guest chef events.
James Murray later joined the team as head chef to oversee the restaurant side of the business.
In an email, the founders said: "We now find ourselves at the end of our lease and while we have a great affection for our space at 158 Dalkeith Road – and in particular to our local community – we have not, in these uncertain times been able to take on the expense and commitment of renewing the lease…
"So, it's with heavy hearts we have closed the doors and say goodbye to 158 Dalkeith Road. In the spirit of moving onwards positively, we see this as an opportunity for rebirth, growth and redefining Edinburgh Food Studio.
"We have reinvented ourselves before: we will do it again. We don't know what form it will take or exactly where it will be but we'll be back."
