Dumbleton Hall sold to US-based buyer off guide price of £6m

Dumbleton Hall, a historic country house hotel in the Cotswolds, has been sold to a US-based property developer off a guide price of £6m.

The 38-bedroom, Grade II-listed property is now owned by a newly incorporated company controlled by Paul Vezolles, president of North Carolina-based Chatham Park Development.

Dumbleton Hall dates back to 1534 and was rebuilt in the late 1800s. It was acquired for hotel use by Post Office Fellowship of Remembrance in 1959 and is a popular licensed wedding venue.

Colliers brought the property to market for the first time in over 60 years in 2019, which it said resulted in "significant" national and international interest with over 10 formal offers submitted.

Hotels Agency director Peter Brunt, who conducted the sale, said the offer for Dumbleton Hall had been made during the first national lockdown.

"It is unsurprising that Dumbleton Hall attracted keen interest even during lockdown, as it offers arguably the best opportunity left in the region to create an up-scale country house hotel to rival the best in the land," he said.

"Current trading performance is good, but there is a very considerable opportunity to reposition the hotel and trade at much higher levels."

He added that annual room occupancy was 76%, while net sales in the last financial year were just under £2m.
