David Lockhart joins Mondrian Shoreditch London as general manager

David Lockhart has been appointed general manager of the Mondrian Shoreditch London ahead of its opening in July.

The former Curtain hotel will reopen as a Mondrian, marking a return of the brand to London after Sea Containers on the South Bank became an independent hotel in 2019. The 120-bedroom hotel, owned by the Reuben Brothers, will open following a complete redesign by London interior design studio Goddard Littlefair.

Lockhart, previously hotel manager at the Ned in the City for over three years, began his hospitality career in 2010 at Firmdale Hotels, where he spent six years at Soho hotel and Ham Yard, and later joined Shoreditch House for two years as deputy general manager. While hotel manager at the Ned, the property won the Catey for Hotel of the Year – Group in 2019.

Chadi Farhat, chief operating officer at SBE, said: "I am pleased to welcome David as our general manager for this prestigious project. His vision will be critical in leading the team at the property and making Mondrian Shoreditch a global destination for travellers and a culinary destination for locals."

Lockhart said: "I'm excited and honoured to be joining the team at Mondrian, one of the world's leading lifestyle hotel brands – especially now as the hospitality industry begins to emerge from lockdown. Lifestyle hotels are plugged into their community and defined by the lifestyle they offer guests – great food, drink, entertainment and atmosphere is at the heart of the experience, and this is what Mondrian Shoreditch London will represent."
