This week in pictures sees Christmas trees from some of London's top venues light up for the festive season
Kimpton Fitzroy London
The 16ft tree at Kimpton Fitzroy London has decorations styled and designed by Steven Duggan Events, inspired by the architecture and interiors of the Kimpton Fitzroy hotel. The lobby of the hotel features earthy warm tones of marble, which are reflected and portrayed in the decorations, with a classic style to represent the era of the hotel. Additionally, floral arrangements around the hotel were designed by Liana Verderocce.
Aqua Shard London
Aqua Shard London's Christmas tree supports Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity's Christmas Appeal. The tree, designed by McQueens Flowers, features an abundance of adornments that pay homage to the world-renowned children's hospital.
They include baubles and children's toys as a nod towards the different wards at the hospital: for example, a robin for Robin Ward, which looks after children with immunology and infectious diseases, and a lion for Lion Ward, which looks after children with cancer. The hotel will be making donations to the charity for each Christmas special it sells.
The Hari hotel
The Hari hotel in Belgravia has unveiled a Christmas window designed in partnership with God's Own Junk Yard and A Space For Art.
God's Own Junkyard is dedicated to recycling and refurbishing signage back to its former glory. Inspired by Santa's toy shop, the Hari's Christmas installation epitomises the classic Christmas window with neon designs, childhood toys and festive garlands. From the collection of classic toys, all of which have been purchased from local charity shops, down to the secondhand postage stamps on the letters to Father Christmas, the installation has been produced using 90% recycled items in keeping with the Hari's environmental and sustainable policies.
Claridge's
Claridge's in London's Mayfair partnered with luxury shoe brand Jimmy Choo for the hotel's Christmas tree, known as ‘the Diamond'. This year's tree is a five metre high sculpture of 69 shining mirrors, 60 metres of lights and 250 aluminium panels. It has been topped with a giant glittering bow, a nod to one of the design themes of Jimmy Choo's winter collection, and is located in the hotel lobby.
Native Places
Aparthotel brand Native Places has teamed up with international floral artist Jake Kuit to produce a carbon-neutral Christmas tree. It has been created using discarded materials rescued from special events held throughout the year. The lower half of the tree comprises branches made from 2,000 stems of dried lunaria and flowers previously used in weddings, decorated with recycled glass baubles. The top half has been made from 250 hand-tied velvet bows from previous events, complemented by Spanish moss and finished with wool used in a Natives 2021 installation.
Shangri-La the Shard
Shangri-La the Shard, London, has welcomed the festive season by unveiling a cosmic, space-age Christmas tree designed by McQueens Flowers. Located on the hotel's ground floor lobby, this year's Christmas tree is 12ft tall and constructed using contemporary geometric metal cubes, preserved and dried blue, silver and gold florals, glittering disco balls and crinkled silver foil. In a space-age twist on traditional Christmas lights, bands of swirling neon light travel down the tree while changing colour from purple to white.
The Goring hotel
The Goring hotel in Belgravia, the only hotel to hold a royal warrant, has collaborated with fellow warrant holder, Garrard on two tiara-themed Christmas trees inspired by the tiaras worn by Queen Elizabeth II. The tiaras are modelled from royal occasions throughout her reign, including the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara (1893) which features in portraits, stamps and currency.
