Cellar Magneval plans deliveries expansion under new ownership
Roland Foxcroft has taken over Cellar Magneval bar in Woking, Surrey, from its previous owners, Thierry and Jo de Magneval.
Former Marakon strategy consultant Foxcroft has also appointed a new general manager, former Four Seasons Park Lane sommelier Fernando Cubas, and plans to expand the business' delivery operation and reopen the venue once Covid-19 regulations allow.
Foxcroft said: "I am honoured to have the opportunity to steer the business through the next chapter in its development. Cellar Magneval plays a special role in the local community. I was extremely excited about the chance to acquire the business, having enjoyed the quality wines, fine cheeses, and the romantic ambience of the bar previously. My enthusiasm has been further developed through meeting many of our wonderful customers through our socially distanced wine and charcuterie deliveries over the last few weeks.
"I now look forward to planning the bar reopening, in addition to expanding the delivery business and bringing a five-star sommelier service to a broad range of personal and corporate events in the future. While I plan to retain the essence of the business, I hope to share the occasional tokaji and bikaver wines too.
"I am humbled to be taking over from Thierry and Jo de Magneval. They have both been exceptionally welcoming to Fernando and me. They built an admirable business, are well-loved among residents, and their sage advice has been invaluable to us both."
Thierry de Magneval said: "We have made this challenging decision to pass on the reigns of the bar and for us as individuals, Jo and Thierry and our lovely family, to move on to new adventures. We would like to thank everyone who has been a part of Cellar Magneval. We have made so many friends and have so many memories that we will treasure. We would also like to pass on a huge thank you to every member of the team who has worked here for us and with us. Jo and I are looking forward to returning to the bar and enjoying a glass of wine there together."
Cubas added: "For any sommelier it is a dream to manage your own wine bar and I am no exception. I am keen to continue delivering thrilling wines in a relaxed environment while introducing a few new ideas too."
Cellar Magneval was opened by chef sommelier Thierry de Magneval and his wife Jo in 2011 serving wines, cheeses and charcuterie.
