Budock Vean Hotel and Estate in Cornwall up for sale for £7m

Budock Vean Hotel and Estate in Cornwall has been put on the market for the first time in almost 40 years for £7m.

The historic property, which has been occupied since 1538, is being sold by the Barlow family after 37 years of ownership.

Knight Frank has been appointed to market the hotel, which features 50 bedrooms, three holiday homes, four lodges and cottages, a cocktail bar and restaurant.

The estate sits within 46 acres of woodland, with a James Braid designed golf course, indoor heated swimming pool, two tennis courts, and natural health spa including treatment rooms, sauna, and outdoor hot tub.

Budock Vean played host to writer Virginia Woolf in 1936 when she complimented the area in a letter to her nephew.

Martin Barlow, owner of Budock Vean Hotel and Estate owner, said: "After 23 memorable years, I have decided that it is time for me bring to a close my family's 37-year ownership. This is a not a decision that I have come to lightly, but I do believe the time is right for me personally to make this change.

"The business is in great shape, with an excellent team who can continue to deliver the very high standards of food and service that has been a hallmark of the hotel."

Matthew Smith, partner in Knight Frank's Hotel Agency team, said the property had a strong reputation and loyal client base who returned to visit year-on-year.

"Having proved so successful over the years, it presents a tremendous investment opportunity to take on a jewel in West Cornwall, building on its already impressive heritage," said Smith.
