BrewDog becomes a certified B Corp

Pub group BrewDog has announced it has become a certified B Corporation, making it one of the few hospitality companies in the UK to meet some of the highest business sustainability standards.

Other B Corp leisure businesses in the UK include Big Mamma Group, Camden Town Brewery, Darkwoods Coffee, the Jamie Oliver Group, wholesaler Cotswold Fayre, suppliers Vegetarian Express and Macphie and Sawday's travel agency.

Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment, and have had their social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose verified.

BrewDog is a living wage employer that invests in research towards the sustainability of brewing and donates to charities. Initiatives to reduce its waste include distilling imperfect beer into vodka, refilling used cans and inviting consumers to trade in 50 empty beer cans in return for equity in the company.

BrewDog was also the world's first carbon-negative brewery and has committed to double-offsetting the carbon footprint of all of its team members.

The Scotland-based company was set up in 2007 and now has more than 101 bars worldwide, 52 of which are in the UK. It has three hotels, including one in Aberdeen, with plans to open a hotel in Manchester this year.
