Austrian hoteliers get green light for City of London hotel
Plans to transform Boundary House in the City of London into a 311-room hotel have been green-lit by councillors.
Austrian hoteliers Rudolf and Christian Ploberger bought the Boundary House office building for approximately £31m last year with the aim of developing it into a new property for their Ploberger Hotel Group.
The 15-storey hotel will feature a rooftop restaurant, ground-floor café bar, and a co-working space with podcasting studios, meeting rooms and event spaces.
The City of London Corporation's Planning and Transportation Committee resolved to approve plans for the development at 7-17 Jewry Street today (19 July).
A widened walkway, planters and seating will be used to enhance the public space on Jewry Street, alongside short-stay cycle parking.
The hotel will have step-free access with an accessible car parking bay.
To reduce the carbon impact of the scheme, the development will retain part of the existing basement and ground floor levels, including partial reuse of floor slab, columns, and foundations.
Shravan Joshi, chairman of the Planning and Transport Committee, said: "Sustainability has been a core consideration of this scheme, which will boost tourism and provide a boutique co-working space to meet the changing needs of businesses."
The Ploberger Hotel Group runs two hotels in Prague and one in Wels near Salzburg.
The Ploberger's previously owned Bow Street Magistrates Court in London's Covent Garden but in 2016 sold the site to investment firm BTC UK, which developed it into the NoMad London hotel.
