Anissa Helou to launch Egyptian takeaway concept
Middle Eastern cookbook author Anissa Helou is to launch a new takeaway concept in London based on the Egyptian street food dish of koshari.
Koshari Street will launch in Covent Garden in mid-March, with a site on St Martin's Lane.
"It's like street food but because of UK health and safety regulations we decided to do a hole in the wall type concept," Helou said. "The menu is very simple and accessible. The concept is elegant, authentic, tasty and healthy."
The menu at Koshari Street will offer pots of koshari as well as seasonal salads, soups, desserts and fresh juices, with the average spend around £5.
Helou said if successful she and her Egyptian backers would like to roll out the concept. "We would like to expand both within the UK and eventually internationally," she said.
