Angler London chef is latest to appear on Channel 4 Burger Bar show
Michelin-starred chef Tony Fleming, from the D&D London Angler restaurant in the South Place hotel, is to be the latest chef to appear on a national TV programme that helps train café cooks into kitchen professionals.
Fleming will appear on More 4's Burger Bar to Gourmet Star, on Sunday 2 August, and will be tasked with training Bristol-based café cook Ollie into a professional-level chef within the Angler kitchen.
He follows other distinguished chefs and restaurants taking part including Daniel Clifford's two-Michelin-starred Midsummer House; Aiden Byrne's Manchester House; one-starred L'Ortolan from Tom Clarke; Hibiscus from Claude Bosi and Restaurant Story from Tom Sellers.
The programme's concept takes some of the country's most accomplished Michelin-starred chefs and pairs them with cooks from burger bars, greasy spoons and chicken shops, to help train them to the standard of a professional chef.
Commenting on his work with his cook, Fleming said: "Ollie was on a huge learning curve. It reminded my team and I how gruelling it is working in a top kitchen. His skills progressed hugely, but sadly there is no such thing as a crash course in Michelin-starred cooking. However, with continued hard work and dedication, he could go far."
Fleming's career history includes time spent as a chef de partie at the Criterion under Marco Pierre White, and roles at the three-Michelin starred Oak Room. He also worked at the Oxo Tower, and was most recently executive chef at One Aldwych before working with the South Place Hotel team to launch Angler in 2012. It won a Michelin star in 2013.
Part of the D&D London portfolio, which also includes Coq D'Argent, Carom, Skylon, Quaglino's, and Le Pont de La Tour, the Angler restaurant specialises in fish and seafood.
