Alton Towers restaurant to serve food by rollercoaster
A restaurant in which food is delivered by rollercoaster is to open at theme park Alton Towers, in Staffordshire, in May.
The 13-table site is set to open on 13 May, and will serve orders via a 400m-long steel track with two "loop-the-loops" and a drop of 26 ft (eight metres) track to diners' tables. All dishes will have been tested for their capacity to stand up to the delivery system, and options are set to include the Big Bowl of Lemon Meringue Mess and the Ultimate Twister Ice Cream Bowl.
There will also be burgers, grills (named Thrills, Grills & Spills), salads, curry, and sides such as seasoned fries and Rollercoaster slaw. The kids' menu will offer macaroni cheese, sausage and mash, and a mini chocolate fondue with fruit and marshmallow skewers.

Alton Towers spokeswoman Gill Riley commented: "The intricate network of loops and spiralling tracks is an incredible spectacle and we feel that the new restaurant is an attraction in itself."
Owned by Merlin Entertainment, Alton Towers first opened in 1980 and has a reputation for creating innovative rollercoasters, including the famous rides Oblivion, Rita: Queen of Speed, Air, the Smiler, and Nemesis. There are also a host of family-friendly rides and attractions, a waterpark, and three hotels, including Splash Landings.
The venue was hit by tragedy in June 2015 when the Smiler rollercoaster crashed, seriously injuring five people and hurting 16 in total, leading to a review of safety measures at the site. The park reported a dip in revenue following the accident as fewer people visited over the summer.
