Alinea remains only three-star restaurant in Chicago Michelin guide
Michelin has released its third guide to the US city of Chicago, where Grant Achatz's Alinea has remained the only three-star restaurant.
The French guide promoted two restaurants to two stars, including L20, which had debuted with three stars in the inaugural Chicago guide for 2011 but lost two stars in 2012 after the departure of its chef Laurent Gras. L20's current head chef Matthew Kirkley is the second chef to head up the seafood restaurant since Gras' departure.
Meanwhile chef-restaurateur Graham Elliot won a second star for his eponymous flagship; the River North restaurant serves innovative New American menus.
Three restaurants in Chicago were awarded their first Michelin star, including Acadia, Goosefoot and Mexique, while Sixteen regained the star it lost last year. There are now 16 starred restaurants in Chicago.
Michelin recognised 64 restaurants with its Bib Gourmand distinction for offering good value at two courses plus a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less.
A total of 433 restaurants are included in the 2013 Michelin guide to Chicago, featuring 44 different cuisines.
The Chicago guide is Michelin's third US guide after New York and San Francisco and the Bay Area. Guides to Los Angeles and Las Vegas were discontinued.
