Alexis Gauthier buys former Richard Corrigan restaurant Lindsay House
Alexis Gauthier, former chef patron of the Michelin-starred Roussillon in London, has bought Lindsay House, the Soho restaurant previously operated by Richard Corrigan.
French chef Gauthier, who remains a shareholder in Roussillon but has ceased his day-to-day involvement in the running of the restaurant, will reopen the four-storey townhouse as Gauthier at Lindsay House next month.
The 70-seat restaurant, which will offer a classic French menu, will be a joint venture between the Gauthier and Roberto della Pietra, the former head sommelier at Roussillon.
The pair will completely refurbish the dining room and two private rooms at Lindsay House, while the ground floor of the building will be turned into a wine shop and cellar.
Gauthier told Caterer he had been looking for a site for some years."I got to a point where I had to make a choice whether to carry on the partnership at Roussillon or to start something new," he said. "When Lindsay House became available I knew this was the right site for me."
Irish chef Corrigan, who ran Lindsay House for more than a decade, closed the restaurant last May after opening his eponymous venture at London's Grosvenor House hotel. At the time he told Caterer of the challenges the 1740s townhouse presented including its tiny kitchen and the sometimes dangerous Soho neighbourhood.
However, Gauthier said was not worried. "There has been a real revival of Soho and things have changed a lot in the last year or so," he said. "I am very excited to take over such an iconic restaurant and hope to relaunch it as a top dining destination."
