Aktar Islam's new Birmingham site named Nosh & Quaff
More details have been revealed about Nosh & Quaff, the new Birmingham venture from Great British Menu winner chef Aktar Islam and Lasan Group business partner Jabbar Khan.
Set to open in the city's Colmore Row in June this year, the 180-cover restaurant and bar will be the fourth Birmingham site for the group, and focus on American-style dining, featuring fresh lobster, chicken wings, burgers, hot dogs and ribs.
There will also be a private dining room and an upstairs bar, while the kitchen - with its own panoramic views â' will also be found upstairs.
Islam and Khan bought the building after walking past and "falling in love with it", Islam told The Caterer.
He added: "This is about feel-good food. I love food from all over the world and I like eating. But I don't like chain restaurants - and if I want a good burger or dog, I'm not spoilt for choice in Birmingham. So this is food we all know and love, and we're giving it the Lasan treatment, in line with our brand values: the best produce available and as natural as we can make it."
Commenting on the new venture when it was first announced in September, Islam said: "It's important for us to continue investing in Birmingham. Both Jabbar and I were born and bred in the city, so when we're expanding it's key for us that we are reinvesting here. The location means it's one of the largest investments we've made, so it's an exciting time for us."
Restaurateur and chef Islam first came to public attention in 2010 after his Lasan restaurant in Birmingham was selected as Best Local Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay on Channel 4's The F Word. He then went on to win the fish course contest in the 2011 final of BBC Two show Great British Menu.
Islam founded Lasan with Khan in 2002, aged just 22, and has since published a cookbook, and appeared on a variety of mainstream cookery television programmes, including BBC Saturday Kitchen. As co-founder of the Lasan Group (alongside Khan), he also runs hospitality consultancy service Restaurant Angels, and the restaurants Raja Monkey, and Fiesta Del Asado.
