Abela to bring
Japanese chef Ichiro Kubota will be coming to London from September when the Marlon Abela Restaurant Corporation (MARC) opens its first Japanese restaurant in the capital.
MARC is set to open Umu on 1 September in Bruton Place, west London, on the site of the former Revolution nightclub.
Kubota was formerly chef at Tsuruya in Kyoto, a restaurant famed for the fact that the Japanese imperial family eats there.
The 60-seat restaurant will specialise in Kyoto cuisine, but will also offer sushi and a gourmet tasting menu.
"Ichiro will be showing the true meaning of Japanese food," claimed a spokeswoman for the company.
It is the only opening currently planned by the company, which also owns the Michelin-starred Greenhouse and Morton's, a private members club in Berkeley Square, both in west London.
The agent for the deal was Davis Coffer Lyons.
