670 Grams expansion plans dropped ‘due to circumstances out of our control'
Plans to extend and refurbish 670 Grams restaurant in Birmingham have been dropped due to what chef-owner Kray Treadwell described as "circumstances out of our control".
"We are unfortunately unable to extend and refurbish the restaurant as originally planned. We will be staying in the existing restaurant for the foreseeable future with a different concept," Treadwell posted on Instagram. "We apologise for any disappointment but no one is more disappointed than us."
Instead, the restaurant's covers will be reduced from 16 to 10, so tables will be booked for the entire evening. "This gives us the freedom to do the food and the experience that we want to deliver," added Treadwell.
He opened his debut restaurant, named after the weight of his daughter when she was born four months prematurely, in Digbeth's Custard Factory in August 2020. The restored Victorian custard factory, a hub for independent, creative businesses, is a listed building.
The chef won the Michelin Guide's Young Chef of the Year award in 2021, has starred on Great British Menu, and was formerly head chef at Michael O'Hare's Michelin-starred the Man Behind the Curtain.
