Around 100 people evacuated from Falmouth hotels over suspicious package
Around 100 people were evacuated from two hotels in Falmouth this morning after a suspicious package was found, which police now believe to have been a hoax.
Police were called at around 3:15am today following reports of a package on the grounds outside of the Falmouth hotel. The area was evacuated as a precaution, along with the nearby Madeira hotel, campervans and neighbouring properties.
Following assessment by the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal, the device was declared safe.
People have now been allowed back into their rooms and the 100-metre cordon has been removed. A criminal investigation has been launched.
Falmouth, which is around a 45-minute drive from Carbis Bay, where the G7 Summit is being held, is reportedly being used as a base for media covering the event.
