Barry Sternlicht to bring 1 Hotels brand to London
Barry Sternlicht's "sustainable luxury" 1 Hotels brand is set to open its first UK property in London's Mayfair in 2022.
Founded by Starwood Capital Group chairman and chief executive Sternlicht, the "eco-conscious" and design-led brand operates four hotels in the US. The 184-bedroom, nine-storey London hotel will be operated by SH Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Starwood Capital.
The interiors will be designed utilising locally sourced, sustainable materials, including reclaimed wood and fabrics, with the bedroom flooring made from fallen trees from local parks.
The hotel, which will have a farm-to-table restaurant, a fitness and wellness centre and a lobby bar, will involve the refurbishment of the Holiday Inn London Mayfair on Berkeley Street as part of a 260,000sq ft mixed use redevelopment by the landlord, London-based real estate firm Crosstree Real Estate Partners.
Sternlicht said: "1 Hotel London will undoubtedly set a new standard in the city for the luxury hotel experience, while also advancing our brand mission to inspire conscious consumption and become a platform for change."
Sean Arnold, co-founding partner at Crosstree, added: "We are thrilled to be working with 1 Hotels to deliver their unique brand of ‘luxury hospitality with a conscience' to this important site at the gateway of London's Mayfair."
1 Hotels, launched in 2015, has other properties under development in the US, France, China, Australia and Canada. Starwood Capital is also set to open its first Treehouse hotel next month in London.
Crosstree also owns London hotels, the Standard in King's Cross and Mama Shelter London in Bethnal Green.
